For those of you who haven’t been following my weekly growth report on Instagram, over the last few weeks, we have been testing Monster Frost by Diablo Nutrients and monitoring the growth we’ve experienced on our two clones, Dread Bread and Sour Diesel.
As you may not already know, some “cannabis” nutrient companies are originally formulated for other plants, with just some small tweaks made to their formula to cater to cannabis. That’s not the case with Diablo Nutrients! Diablo’s products were developed by cannabis plant researchers, specifically formulated for use on cannabis plants. Not to mention they’re priced very reasonably, as I’m sure you’re as tired of overpaying for nutrients as I am.
At first glance of the directions, Diablo states to use Monster Frost throughout the entire life cycle from the second week of the vegetative growing phase right up until the 2nd last week of flowering. Specifically, this product will broaden your terpene spectrum and increase the level of naturally occurring organic compounds. So, I decided to put that to the test with two clones I had in the vegetative phase, Dread Bread and Sour Diesel.
Over the next coming weeks, I slowly bumped up their dose, depending on each strain’s specific needs, and was extra careful to not overfeed, as this can be detrimental to the plants’ health.
After just the first week of use, I could easily tell how much happier the plants were. The leaves were bigger and overall the plants just looked a lot healthier.
By the end of week 2 the Dread Bread plant was extremely happy and much fuller, with a ton of new leaf growth. The Sour Diesel stretched out almost doubling in size, but began to yellow slightly in the leaves, so I adjusted the nutrient amount slightly to help with this. I could tell Monster Frost was making my plants very happy and seemed to breathe new life into them.
End of week 3 the Dread Bread really started to stretch out and catch up to the growth I had experienced in the Sour Diesel the weeks before. I bumped up the nutrients in the Sour Diesel plant and the leaves have become a nice dark green making the plant much happier now.
At the end of week 4, the Dread Bread continues to stretch out trying to catch up with the growth on the Sour Diesel, though the Sour Diesel has not stopped stretching. These plants are definitely feeling the full effects of Monster Frost and let me tell you… they are LOVING it! I will definitely continue using this product throughout the entire life cycle of these plants and I’m excited to see the final results come harvest time!
Overall, I’m very happy with my test results thus far, and I’m looking forward to testing out their full line of products. To check out Monster Frost and Diablo Nutrients’ full line of products, you can visit their website at DiabloNutrients.com.

Man on a Mission
Cannabis Expert Michael Backes Discovers Breakthrough in Formulating Cannabis to Create Specific Effects and Deliver Consistency
When Michael Backes first began researching cannabis in the 1970s, he was most interested in improving the flavors and increasing the quality of effects he was getting from single strains. As a result of fifteen years of research, a best-selling book, and one medical dispensary, he invented a process that effectively produced the effects and qualities that cannabis breeders spend years cultivating in hybrids, while also protecting the plant’s shelf life.
Backes is a world-renowned cannabis expert and author of “Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana”. He is the co-inventor of the first cannabis breeding utility patent awarded in the U.S. He has also served on behalf of numerous cannabis research and trade organizations, including the Science & Medical Advisory Board of Maui Grown Therapies and the National Cannabis Industry Association. Backes discovered a new way to infuse cannabis flower blends with the plant’s natural oils and delicate terpenes, to achieve the consistent effect he has been seeking for decades. This patent-pending process avoids several traditional preparation techniques that destroy the most fragile terpenes before they ever reach consumers.
Backes, alongside business partner and co-founder Dean Hollander, launched Perfect to provide blended cannabis products that deliver distinct effects. Perfect is becoming available through a handful of California dispensaries and now, a direct-to-consumer delivery service starting in the Bay Area and Southern California.
“I’m proud to say that after a decade of research, we’ve reached our goal of providing a consistent cannabis experience every time,” said Michael Backes.
Terpenes, essential oils produced by cannabis compounds found in the cannabis plant, influence the plant’s effects, flavors, and aroma. However unless great care is taken, many of these unique terpenes are lost after harvest. Perfect’s proprietary infusion process preserves these terpenes. Each of these blends is designed to deliver a unique series of defined and tested effects. The initial lineup includes “Happy Camper,” “Pick Me Up,” and “NightCap.”
Perfect’s products contained as much as sixty times the level of monoterpenes as leading prerolls, resulting in a more potent effect and a broader “entourage effect” from the plant, allowing customers to use less product at a time.
“We’re now as close as we can get to the freshly harvested plant,” said Michael Backes. “And it’s great,” he added.
Perfect’s products will appear in dispensaries throughout Southern California and through a home delivery service that will serve Bay Area and Southern California residents. To learn more about the company, visit www.perfect-blends.com, or on Instagram @blendsbyperfect.
How NUG Plans on Normalizing the Cannabis Experience
NUGL had the opportunity to speak with Ted Whitney, the VP of Operations for NUG about the company’s rapid growth and plans for the rest of 2020.
NUG, based in Oakland in a 200,000 square foot factory building. The company is vertically integrating the cannabis space. Starting in the medical space, and quickly becoming the fasted growing cannabis brand in California. The company cultivates, manufactures infused products, they make pens, edibles, and popsicles. Their finished products are all tested before they are packaged and go to market.
In a move that might have seemed strange to some, NUG decided to open their dispensaries. With their products are in over 350 dispensaries within California, one might ask if they felt that this was cannibalizing other neighboring dispensaries sales. Ted explained that NUG’s goal is to normalize cannabis. Not only do their dispensaries sell their products, but they are also creating a customer and brand experience that can transform into sales in other local dispensaries. Ted said that the three stores NUG currently has open serve as a showcase for ‘best of the best cannabis’ grown and products manufactured in California. NUG has plans to open 3 more locations this year.
NUG is very committed to moving the industry along and expanding the community. As one of the founders of the Oakland Equity Program, NUG is helping to revitalize Oakland using cannabis as the catalyst for change. NUG is providing startups with access to a greenhouse and entry into the marketplace to start a business.
NUG has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Ted let us know that they have plans to introduce two new brands this year – a value flower brand bringing high quality for a lower price to consumers and a new line of edibles. The new edible line has a natural approach with trail mixes, granola bars, and chocolate bars that incorporate Kava Kava and Valeria root.

The Spirits of Greenbar
Tis the season of eating, drinking and being merry and we have everything you need for the most delicious cocktail recipes brought to you by Greenbar Distillery.
Located in downtown Los Angeles, Greenbar Distillery is LA’s first since the prohibition and the first craft distillery in the U.S. At the root of these amazing spirits….? A love story.
It’s no mistake that radiating hearts are on every bottle and embedded intp the Greenbar logo. Founders, Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Mathew (now married) met in graduate journalism school and had no idea that making spirits and opening a distillery would be in their future. When the couple became engaged, they would go to family functions and drink after celebratory toasts from their loved ones, however, Liddy didn’t engage in the toasting festivities; she was turned off with the taste of alcohol, which to her, tasted like nail polish remover. Determined to have his bride-to-be happily partake in the toasting festivities with friends and family, Melkon went to the local Farmer’s Markets and bought fresh ingredients to infuse the alcohol with. He was used to watching Litty cook, layering ingredients and adding flavors in order to turn them into delicious meals (something she learned while going to culinary school in France). Inspired, he imitated her art in his spirit infusions by bringing fresh aromas and flavors to life in the alcohol. When he perfected his concoctions, the couple would bring them to family and friend’s houses for parties and gatherings and soon enough, everyone wanted a bottle (or two) of their delicious alcohol. When Litty and Melkon eventually had friends, family, and many friends of friends calling, asking for a bottle of their spirits, they decided, hand in hand, to take a leap and dive in to the distillery business head first.
The love and passion of Greenbar Distillery radiates from everything- the distillery, the branding, the spirits… and because they only infuse with organic ingredients, the taste is fresh, natural and light. The range of sprits include vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila (distilled in Jalisco, Mexico), liqueur, and two amari.
During the tour, I was lucky enough to get to sample almost all of the different spirits Greenbar had to offer. The favorites were the IXÀTequila Añejo which is distilled in Jalisco, Mexico- basically the Mecca of all the world’s tequila- and the Slow Hand Six Woods Whiskey (which gets its name from being the only whiskey in the world that uses 6 different types of wood for flavor). Both, the tequila and whiskey, are smooth on the pallet and all around delicious.
For more flavor and creativity, Greenbar Distillery also has a small selection of liqueurs and amari (which I had never tried before going to Greenbar). The liqueurs mix perfectly with the spirit infusions and include blood orange (it puts a twist on the Old Fashioned cocktail), hibiscus, ginger, and (my personal favorite) Fruitlab Jasmine – made with black and green tea, citrus and pure jasmine nectar. Again, these liqueurs are all made with fresh, organic, and intentional ingredients; gone are the days of cotton candy and whip cream (artificial) flavoring resulting in the world’s worst hangover! Along with the liqueurs, Greenbar also has 2 Amari liqueurs to sip on after a lovely meal. Amaro is an Italian word that means “bitter”. It is an herb-infused liqueur that is traditionally infused with grape brandy and a mixture of different herbs and aromatics. The bitter brew is sweetened, aged, and then finishes as a liqueur with about 16-35% alcohol. Although there is flexibility-and creativity- in mixing the delicious assortment of herbs and aromatics into different types of spirits, Amaro is truly meant to be sipped and savored.
Now, just when you think Greenbar Distillery couldn’t possibly get any better- with the adorable branding, delicious range of spirits and liqueurs, the pure ingredients that are backed with integrity and intention, and the blossoming from a love story – it does! In addition to everything I just mentioned, Greenbar Distillery takes pride in sustainability and stands with Mother Earth (so much of what we need these days)! Their certitfed organic ingredients help to maintain clean farmland and groundwater and their packaging is made with lightweight (glass) bottles and 100% post consume waste recycled labels (sans plastic and metallic paints). To top it all off, Greenbar Distillery plants one tree for every bottle sold. Since 2008, they, along with Sustainable Harvest International, have planted more than 800,000 trees! Greenbar wanted to plant and partner with Sustainable Harvest International because they are a non-proft that provides help and support through education and resources to rural communities. Taken from the Greenbar Distillery website:“[If you] drink a standard 4oz cocktails made with 1.5 oz of Greenbar Distillery spirits, you’ll be carbon negative for the day.On average Americans produce 45.2 kilograms (kgs) of carbon dioxide every day. That’s our carbon footprint…one of the largest in the world. By being efficient and careful in the manufacturing process and planting one tree per bottle sold, 1.5 ounces of any Greenbar Distillery organic spirits — about what’s in a typical cocktail — helps remove 46.6 kgs of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Your organic Greenbar Distillery cocktail just made you carbon negative for a day!
You (45.2 kg) minus your cocktail (-46.6 kg) equals carbon negative (-1.4 kg). Let’s drink to a better world. Arriving at the math required experts and time, but the results are simple: By making small changes, we can make a big difference in the environment.”
Wow, there truly is nothing better than a company that has purpose and passion for what they do and for the world around them, I think that is something we can all raise a glass to.

Entwined v2 – Hemp Filament
Entwined™ is 3D printing filament produced from USA-grown and processed industrial hemp. Industrial hemp crops require no herbicides, no pesticides and grow more densely compared to corn. Entwined hemp filament uses no dyes, allowing it to maintain a true natural brown. There’s a large amount of visible bio-fill, something you don’t get with standard PLA. This is the third in a line of intriguing materials as part of a continuing partnership between 3D-Fuel and bio-composite company, c2renew. More distinctive bio-based products will be released soon.
Entwined Hemp-Filled PLA is made with a percentage of Hemp byproducts, including hurd and fiber, and Workday PLA.
We’ve reduced the particle size of the hemp material and increased the percentage. This will enable printing in a much wider variety of 3D printers. If you had a tricky time printing with Entwined in the past, the new formulation is much better. PLUS you can now anneal it after printing for increased heat resistance! 3D print with hemp filament!
Entwined hemp filament can be printed on any machine capable of printing with PLA using standard PLA settings.
Entwined prints well at 180-210 C. In general, a good starting point is 10 degrees cooler than you typically print PLA. A heated bed is not necessary, though if you have one, set it to 45-60 C.
Filament Information Quality:
All 3D-Fuel 3D printer filament is manufactured in our own production facility located in Fargo, North Dakota or in Moville, Ireland (depending on customer location). We have complete control over the manufacturing process and are able to ensure consistent quality for every spool. Learn more about 3D-Fuel USA filament quality.
Variable diameter can cause big problems in your 3D printer. We use a multi-axis laser measurement system to control our filament diameter and ovality in real time during production. Every spool has the diameter and ovality measurements listed right on the box.
500g (1.1 lbs) or 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of Entwined Hemp Filament plastic filament arrives on an easy-to-use plastic reel and is vacuum sealed with a desiccant packet to keep out any moisture. Test Printing: The 3D-Fuel test lab features multiple brands of 3D printers including MakerBot, Raise3D, LulzBot, FlashForge, and more. We 3D print what we manufacture to ensure that our filament provides the absolute best quality possible. Download an Entwined™ brochure in PDF format

Med 7 – Increasing CBD Absorption Rates with Purzorb
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants (both marijuana and industrial hemp). Aside from tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana, CBD is the most studied and sought after cannabinoid. The vast majority of CBD oils and products are derived from industrial hemp, a subcategory of the cannabis plant, closely related to marijuana. Industrial hemp is defined as a cannabis plant that contains no more than .3% THC. Industrial hemp is grown and processed to create many products, including textiles, biofuels, fiber, nutritious foods, cosmetics, animal feed, building products, biodegradable plastics, paints, and nutritional supplements. CBD oil manufacturers value industrial hemp for its high content of CBD and being nearly devoid of the psychoactive THC. In fact, CBD oils have quickly become the most popular nutritional supplement derived from the hemp plant. CBD oils made from Farm Bill compliant industrial hemp are now available in all 50 states. People using CBD oil have found relief from a wide variety of ailments, including chronic pain and seizures.
CBD oils offer a safe and effective alternative to many drugs so it is no wonder that so many people are turning to it for relief. The only hiccup in the effectiveness of CBD oil products is the way the body processes them. CBD is not water soluble. There is a layer of water in our digestive tracts that allows us to absorb water soluble nutrients and vitamins, such as vitamin C and vitamin B. CBD oil and other vitamins and nutrients that are not water soluble do not pass through this water layer. This means, although a small percentage is absorbed, the vast majority is discharged from the body and not used. In fact, even some of the best CBD oils on the market are only 6% absorbable. In other words, the majority of the CBD is eliminated from the body and ends up being wasted. The inability to pass the layer of water in the digestive tract is also why it typically takes 60-90 minutes before any noticeable effects of a CBD oil take place.
Med 7 and PurzorbTM — Maximizing CBD Absorption
In order to increase the amount of CBD being absorbed by the body and to reduce the time it takes for the CBD to take effect, the PurhealthRX Technology team developed PurzorbTM. PurzorbTM is the technology that makes oil-based ingredients bio-absorbable or “bioavailable” to the body without changing the ingredient’s form or structure. Med 7 CBD oil is the only CBD oil on the market with the PurzorbTM technology. Essentially, the PurzorbTM contained in Med 7 CBD oil enables the CBD to be water soluble and, therefore, absorbed by the layer of water in our digestive tracts upon consumption. Laboratory studies show that PurzorbTM formulated hemp CBD oil demonstrates a much higher bioavailability than unformulated hemp CBD oil. As previously stated, other CBD oils have absorbability rates of around 6%. Med 7 with PurzorbTM technology, on the other hand, has absorbable rates of up to 85%. This means that people who use Med 7 CBD oil can get the same effect as with other CBD oils, but at a much lower dose and at a much quicker rate.
Derived from organically grown Kentucky hemp, Med 7 contains less than .3% THC and has no psychoactive properties. Med 7 is derived from whole hemp plants and is considered a full spectrum CBD product because it contains more than just CBD. Med 7 contains a variety of nutrients, terpenes, and other cannabinoids, including CBC, CBDa, CBG, and CBN. This higher concentration of other cannabinoids, nutrients, and terpenes can be attributed to the extraction method used. In the case of Med 7, supercritical (or subcritical ) CO2 extraction from the hemp plant is employed. This method uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and at an extremely low temperature, which both isolates and preserves the quality of the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. These additional components are often destroyed or diminished when using other extraction methods, such as butane or alcohol extractions. Unlike many other CBD oil products, MED 7 tastes great and is available in wild berry or cinnamon flavors. Put another way, it will not leave behind the nasty, oily aftertaste that is experienced with other CBD oil products. Med 7 can be quickly administered under the tongue or mixed with a beverage. A little goes a long way. The higher absorption percentage combined with the fact that Med 7 is a full spectrum CBD product means the consumer will need a smaller dose when compared with other CBD oils. It is not uncommon for one bottle of Med 7 to equal 14-20 bottles of other CBD oils on the market. As mentioned earlier, it typically takes 60-90 minutes for most CBD oils to take effect. The proprietary PurzorbTM in Med 7 not only increases absorption percentages up to 85%, but it also ensures the fastest delivery of CBD, where effects can be felt in as little as 15 minutes.
Cannabis has been used as a medicine for millennia. If the laws in the United States continue to favor legalization, and if the rumors of national recognition of medical marijuana are true, we can assume the popularity of cannabis medications will continue to grow even more in the near future. The cannabis products that maximize efficiency and effectiveness by combining technological breakthroughs with Mother Nature will reshape the way we view medicine. Med 7 clinical strength CBD oil with PurzorbTM is a wonderful example of how technology and nature can be combined to create a more efficient, more effective, natural-based medicine.
