NUGL App

v1.3.2

General Updates
– We’ve lowered the size of our web application, which means downloading and browsing should be faster, and easier on people using mobile data.
– The way we load our data (search results, connection information, geolocation) has been adjusted, which means a faster, more responsive app while still respecting user’s bandwidth.
– We’re updated our link embed (seen on other websites & services), but we’ll be improving the way links embed on other services for specific listings as well in the future.

Web App: Map & search
– Filtering has had a huge overhaul.
— Searching using the main search bar now filters your search results.
— Filtering can now be done by category, or more granular.
— A badge will tell you how many, if any, filters you currently have active.
— Added some convenience buttons for clearing your search and/or filters.
— Filter colors are now closer to the original sidebar theme.
– Searching returns better (more complete) data more often, meaning our sorting is better and the actual listings you can visit should have better information.  This is an area we’re constantly improving, so it’s worth keeping an eye on as we continue to roll out our data updates.

Web App: Accounts
– Added a loading indicator for while images are uploading.  Improvements are still coming down the pipeline for images as a whole, but this should make it more obvious when something is happening.
– Business listings no longer require agreeing to your state’s licensing in order to proceed.
– Accounts now have four tabs beyond profiles:  Retail Store, Brand, Influencer, and Service
– Account creation tutorial has been removed
– Many updates to editing a listing’s information.
– Added more company types.
– Added more product types.

Web App: Public Pages
– Reviews show profile images, or some sensible default.  More work is coming down the line to improve this area.
– Fixes were made for a certain situation which would make your operating hours display incorrectly.

New!: NUGL Partnerships & Advertisements
– We’ve partnered with people and companies active in the cannabis community.  This keeps us in touch with what the community actually wants, and as part of this we serve two “ads” on our main app.nugl.com page.
– All images and links served through these partnerships are vetted by our team, so we’re able to keep our own hands on making sure they meet our standards.  Additionoally, since we do not use a third party ad network, companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook will not be jotting down whatever activity you may have on the NUGL website.
– These partnerships are focused on the cannabis comomunity so we can serve people’s needs in a way that makes sense, while also giving companies seeking a method to “get the word out” an option.
– There is now a small banner at the top of the search results.  These ads do not look like or masquerade as actual listing results.  When one of our ads clicked, we keep track of it initially in order to better plan how to best serve our partners as well as the end user.
– There is now a small square dismissable sponsored image on certain sizes of the main map.

NUGL Introduces New and Improved Search Engine

Published

on

When the NUGL App first launched in 2018, we wanted to bring a better cannabis search app to the marketplace. We heard complaints about current cannabis search apps, as well as experienced our own issues with them. So, we set out to develop a truly unbiased and simple to use cannabis search app that was built for the people, and by the people.

After our initial launch, we continued developing new features and adding updates which mainly focused on cannabis businesses and services. But the one thing we felt could always use improvement was our search engine. The search started to feel sluggish and wasn’t always generating accurate results. So we sat down at the drawing board and decided to rebuild our search engine from scratch.

We needed to not only increase the scaleability of our user database, so search results would load faster, but also needed to make the search bar more functional and intuitive for our users. And after months of R&D, we finally feel that our search engine is working as we intended. Though we are always open to user feedback on how we can improve, and we gladly welcome it! Click here to test out the new NUGL search engine.

How It Works

In our latest release, we updated the search bar to include a new category selector that helps narrow down search results right off the bat. Simply select a category option – All, Retail, Brands, Services, or Influencers – and hit search.

For more specific results, add text to the search field before you submit your search.

Once your search results are generated, simply click on the listing below to view the company profile.

Or if you prefer, click on the “View Map” link to the right of the result to view their location on the NUGL map.

Alternatively, if you just want to browse nearby locations, simply click the little map icon to the right of the search bar. This will open the map, centered on your current location, where you can click and drag around to view nearby locations with ease.

It’s as simple as that! For more info on this update or to let us know what you think about it, please leave a comment below, or contact us at info@nugl.com. We hope you enjoy the new NUGL Search! And if you don’t, please tell us how we can improve!

100+ Cannabis Thought Leaders and 200+ Exhibitors Discuss Major Changes in the World’s Largest Adult-Use Market

Long Beach, Calif. —September 23, 2019 — The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) is hosting the third annual California Cannabis Business Conference this October 8-9. The event, which will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center, will gather thousands of cannabis industry leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs to discuss and examine California’s cannabis-specific regulations, market trends, policy, advocacy, and research.

California Cannabis Business Conference is the only industry trade show focusing solely on the California market. Attendees will have the chance to network with top California operators and over 200 unique exhibitors. Cannabis professionals will also have the opportunity to hear over 100 thought leaders in the space discuss how to navigate licensing and multiple regulatory agencies within the world’s largest adult-use market.

Leaders from California brands Kiva Confections and Papa & Barkley will kick off the festivities with the “Scaling Across California” panel, discussing how to implement lessons learned from other industries to grow a successful cannabis business. Lindsay Robinson, Executive Director of the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA) is spearheading the panel “All Eyes on California: Exploring Recent Regulatory Changes and Correlating Market Dynamics,” where attendees will walk away with a better understanding of how California’s new regulations will affect the cannabis industry on a national and global level.

New this year, NCIA will be offering Lightning Lessons, where industry pioneers will educate conference-goers about top-of-mind issues in 20-minute sessions. Chaney Turner, founder and CEO of The People’s Dispensary will speak about the importance of corporate responsibility and The People’s Dispensary’s unique approach to social equity during the “Social Equity: An Honest Conversation” session. During the “Building Bridges and Breaking Down Walls from California to Latin America” session, Jazmin Aguiar, Co-Founder & President of The Working Group will address how Californians can build connections with the booming Latin American cannabis industry.

Proceeds from the conference will go toward NCIA’s federal policy reform efforts, including advocating for the SAFE Banking Act, one of the many finance-related topics Codie Sanchez of Cresco Capital Partners and Troy Dayton of The Arcview Group will address during the keynote presentation “Show Me the Money: The Future of Finance in Cannabis.” Sanchez and Dayton will share general best practices for anyone looking to fundraise and invest and hear more about the future of finance for the industry.

“The banking issue has been a hot topic within the industry that we want to address head-on at this event. We know that educational panel discussions are helpful for business owners, but this conference is doing so much more than that,” said Aaron Smith, executive director of NCIA. “When cannabis executives purchase tickets to attend the California Cannabis Business Conference, they are serving the higher purpose of advancing the industry politically.”

Tuesday, October 8 marks opening day for the expo hall. Sessions will take place throughout the day, with networking breaks scheduled for attendees and speakers to meet with the more than 200 exhibitors showcasing new products and revolutionary services from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, where attendees can continue to explore the expo hall and enjoy the full lineup of educational sessions throughout the day.

NUGL App

Android: v1.3.2 (live)
iOS: v1.3.2 (pending)

API updatesWe’ve made some changes to how we serve data to our mobile apps, specifically in regards to listing and company data.  We’ll continue to update this over the next couple releases, and we’re going to keep improving the quality of the data we serve.  Small tweaks have been made to reflect this, but you may not see them yet on every listing as we roll things out.
Additional changesIn order to keep the NUGL app free for everyone, we’ve begun to partner with several companies involved in the cannabis space.  You’ll notice a small banner image under the search bar, which when tapped should take you to one of our partner’s websites.  These pictures do not go through any big third party networks, so no Amazon/Facebook/Google keeping tabs on where you are or what you’re looking at.  Each picture and link is vetted by our team before they get added, so we have direct control over what gets served.  These are meaningful partnerships with people actively involved in the 420 community rather than get-rich-quick attempts to take advantage of users with misleading ads or weird link redirects.
We thought this was the best way to serve our community, while still allowing us to move forward with improvements to the app.  Let us know if you have suggestions or questions at info@nugl.com.
